High Strength, I-Joist Compatible
Rosboro BigBeam, a 30F high-strength hybrid glulam, is the ideal beam for modern residential and light commercial applications. BigBeam is made in popular I-Joist depths of 9 1/2", 11 7/8", 14", 16" and 18" and is sized to match framing widths of 3 1/2", 5 7/16" and 7". Because of its flush I-Joist depths, BigBeam is commonly used as a floor beam as well as window, door and garage door headers.

A Cost Effective Choice
BigBeam is considered by many builders to be more cost effective than LVL, PSL, steel I-beams, and even solid timbers. This reflects not only the cost of the beam, but also its ease of installation and minimal callbacks. BigBeam cuts, nails, handles and even finishes like wood. It rarely requires shims to match wall framing and won't twist or warp once inside the wall.

What Makes BigBeam so Versatile?
What separates BigBeam from stock 24F glulam is that the tension and compression lams (top and bottom edges of the beam) are comprised of LVL. This combination of materials (referred to as a "layup") has been engineered to deliver high structural values.

Most of the bending stress on a horizontal timber takes place on the top and bottom edge of the member. The value of the dry, pine laminate stock used in the core is that it makes the beam lighter, more resistant to the elements and easier to work with than solid LVL, PSL or solid timbers. Since LVL has greater design values than pine laminations, adding the LVL lams increases the overall strength of the beam where the greatest stress occurs.

Also, because BigBeam is made from kiln-dried lumber and LVL, it does not twist, split or warp. For added protection, BigBeam is coated with a sealer that retards moisture and UV exposure, before being individually wrapped. Combined, these features enhance BigBeam's "dimensional" stability in the yard, on the job site, and during and after construction.

Code Recognized
Rosboro BigBeam is recognized under ICC-ES Report ESR-1937. Click here if you would like to see a copy of the report. Wet use adhesives comply with ASTM D-2559. It is inspected and certified by APA/EWS in conformance with American National Standard ANSI A190.1-02 and is LA city approved.

Note: Although BigBeam is manufactured to the APA/EWS Framing Appearance standard, it is not intended for use in framing applications where appearance is critical. The beam is touch-sanded or planed after gluing to assure proper width tolerances.
